Bryan City Council Approves Unchanged Tax Rate

Bryan homeowners will see the city’s property tax rate remain unchanged for the upcoming fiscal year. The Bryan City Council gave final approval Sept. 15 to a rate of $0.624 per $100 of taxable property value, continuing the same rate used by the city since Fiscal Year 2023. City of Bryan

The decision comes as Bryan continues to face higher costs for services and equipment, including road-repair materials, public-safety vehicles and playground equipment. City officials said they chose to maintain the existing rate while continuing to fund city operations and infrastructure. Bryan has not increased its property tax rate since Fiscal Year 1999. A Flat Rate Doesn’t Guarantee a Flat Tax Bill

Keeping the tax rate unchanged does not necessarily mean every Bryan homeowner will pay the same amount as last year. Property tax bills also depend on taxable property values, which are determined annually by the Brazos Central Appraisal District. City of Bryan

City calculations put the average taxable homestead value at $311,402 for FY2027, compared with $306,495 the previous year. At the adopted rate, the estimated city tax bill on that average homestead is approximately $1,943, about $30 higher than the previous year’s estimate. Individual homeowners could see different changes depending on their property’s taxable value. City of Bryan

Where Bryan’s Property Tax Money Goes

Property tax revenue helps finance many of the services Bryan residents use throughout the year. The city expects approximately 80% of anticipated property tax revenue to flow into its General Fund, with the remaining 20% supporting debt service and Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones. City of Bryan

Those dollars help support police, fire and emergency operations along with road repairs, drainage maintenance, parks, recreation programs, libraries, building inspections and cybersecurity. Maintaining those services while controlling costs was a major consideration as city leaders worked through the FY2027 budget. City of Bryan

What Bryan Residents Should Know

The city tax rate represents only one portion of a homeowner’s total property tax bill. Depending on where a property is located, the final bill can include taxes from the city, county, school district and other applicable taxing entities. City of Bryan

For Bryan residents, the city’s decision means its rate itself will not increase for FY2027. However, changes in taxable property values and rates imposed by other local taxing entities can still affect what an individual homeowner ultimately pays.
