New Messer Facility Expected to Bring Major Industrial Investment to Bryan

A new industrial facility planned for Bryan is expected to begin operating in late 2027, adding another major investment to the city’s growing business base.

Industrial gas company Messer announced Aug. 12 that it plans to build an air separation unit in Bryan. The company says the facility will help supply industrial gases to customers across Central Texas.

For Bryan residents, the project is notable because it brings another industrial operation into a local economy often associated with Texas A&M University and education. The facility is expected to serve businesses across several industries while creating permanent jobs once operations begin.

The Facility Will Produce Industrial Gases in Bryan

Messer’s planned air separation unit will separate components of atmospheric air to produce gases needed by commercial and industrial customers. The Bryan facility is intended to strengthen the company’s supply network across Central Texas as demand increases.

According to Messer, industries that rely on these gases include food and beverage production, health care, metals, manufacturing, chemicals and aerospace. Having a production facility in Bryan gives the company another location capable of serving customers within the region. If you live locally, the plant may not be the type of business you interact with directly, but the products produced there can support companies across several sectors of the economy that rely on steady supplies of industrial gases.

Bryan Was Selected for the Central Texas Project

Messer formally announced its Bryan investment on Aug. 12, following local discussions and economic-development work surrounding the project. Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez welcomed the company’s decision to locate its new air separation unit in the city.

The location places Messer within a growing Central Texas market while giving the company access to customers across multiple industries. Bryan also offers connections to the broader Brazos Valley economy and transportation routes leading toward other Texas markets. For local residents, the announcement represents another company choosing to place a substantial industrial operation in the area. The project will take time to develop, however, with the facility currently expected to be completed and operating in late 2027.

The Project Adds Another Type of Employer to Bryan

Bryan-College Station’s economy is heavily influenced by Texas A&M University, education, health care and government employment. Industrial developments such as Messer’s facility give the area another source of economic activity outside those long-established sectors.

That diversification can matter as the Brazos Valley continues growing. Industrial facilities can create direct positions while supporting contractors, transportation companies, maintenance providers and other businesses. Messer has not presented the project as a massive employment center, so you should not expect thousands of new positions. Its importance comes partly through the industrial investment itself and the businesses it can support. The facility also adds infrastructure capable of supplying gases used by companies operating throughout Central Texas rather than serving only Bryan customers.

Several Industries Could Rely on Products Made at the Facility

Industrial gases have uses that extend well beyond factories. Messer says its products serve health care, food and beverage operations, chemical companies, metals businesses, manufacturers and aerospace customers, among others.

That range helps explain why a new air separation facility can have an economic reach beyond the property where it is built. A hospital and a manufacturing operation may have very different needs, yet both can rely on gases produced through industrial separation processes. For Bryan, hosting the facility places part of that supply chain within the community. The plant’s customers will not necessarily be limited to the Brazos Valley either. Messer specifically describes the project as strengthening its ability to supply customers across the broader Central Texas region.

Construction Will Continue Before the Planned 2027 Opening

Residents should not expect the new Messer facility to begin production immediately. The company’s announcement places the project on a longer construction timeline, with the Bryan facility expected to be completed in late 2027.

That means much of the project’s local activity over the coming year will center on development and construction rather than full operations. Large industrial facilities require specialized equipment and infrastructure before production can begin. The timeline also gives Bryan and surrounding organizations time to prepare for the facility’s arrival and the economic activity associated with it. As work progresses, residents should watch for additional information about construction milestones, hiring and the exact opening schedule, particularly as the project moves closer to completion during 2027.

The Project Shows Bryan’s Economy Continuing to Expand

Messer’s decision gives Bryan another piece of industrial infrastructure as growth continues across the Brazos Valley. While one facility will not reshape the local economy by itself, projects like this can gradually broaden the types of companies operating in the area.

For residents, the longer-term question will be whether investments like Messer attract suppliers or other businesses that benefit from being near industrial production. That effect cannot be assumed before it happens, but the facility gives Bryan another opportunity to compete for related development. What is known today is that Messer has publicly committed to constructing the air separation unit and expects completion in late 2027. The next stage will be watching that plan move through construction toward actual operations.
